Weekend Hike-Rasar State Park

Another PERFECT day again! In low 60s, little bit of rain, clouds and sunbreaks-my favorite hiking weather! What a beautifully maintained park. Many paved paths making it quite wheelchair friendly. Easy slope down to the meadow and farther on to the river's edge. Fun walk along the FULL Skagit river, through meadow and through perfectly native forest canopy of big leaf maples, ferns and salmonberries. WONDERFUL day! We're reading (listening) to "The Hobbit" right now...the kids standing in the mossy trunk makes me feel all Baggins-ish! The meadow was mesmerizing for all!

My sister generously gave me two of her old cameras, I gave my old camera to the kids, so each child had a camera to themselves on the hike. Dan and Sarah had a blast taking their own photos!

The sky was gorgeous with fluffy clouds, I love the look of "layers" in many shots and tried out the panorama on my camera, loving the massive 20x zoom.

In the tall grass, wweet Sarah could simply disappear by squatting down and then we couldn't find her (much to her amusement)!

Gramma and Sarah (with the grapes)! There's always something memorable on each hike, and one of the memories is that Sarah lost a bag of grapes in the tall meadow grass. She was SO SAD, but was comforted knowing she probably fed a small family of mice later that night!

The dreaded Scotch Broom! The kids say "Scotch Broom" and I respond with a groan. (They do this each about 11 times per outing). Did you know this is NOT a native of Washington? Oh no, they literally blew up I-5 with the wind and planted themselves along the freeway corridor. And now they are crowding out valuable native species. Big bully broom! :(

We like to get our "money's worth" out of the day, even squeezing the last moments of daylight!

The kids LOVED the meadow, tossing themselves into the tall grass again and again, like a prickly swimming poos, they couldn't get enough. "Mom, what's this white sticky stuff that looks like spit"?

Sarah especially enjoyed the two playgrounds and Gramma brought TONS of yummy food lovingly prepared ahead of time. Can't wait for next weekend to do it all again! I've already planned the next three weekends!
